USA Does Not Plan Placing A Military Base In Azerbaijan
YEREVAN (Respublica Armenia daily), 01/28/99 — USA does not plan placing a military base in Azerbaijan, said spokesperson of State Department for Newly Independent States Ann Johnson.
The proposal about stationing USA troops in Azerbaijan were made by the Azeri State Advisor for Foreign Policy Vafa Goulouzade last week. He said that Azerbaijan would greet displacement of USA or NATO forces on the Apsheron peninsula, and spoke for moving the USA Injirlik base from Turkey to Azerbaijan.
Spokesperson of Pentagon Anthony Cooper too confirmed that the Defense Agency of USA does not plan displacement of its military forces in Azerbaijan.
